INTRODUCE
Data Warehouse & Business Intelligence
Investment managers have not found the value in their "data warehouse" projects.
For the last fifteen years, asset managers have invested significant resources to either customize a vendor solution or build their own data warehouse.
These expensive projects typically produce operational reports, with limited value to the front offices.
The promise of providing insights or business intelligence from these large data warehouse projects has not been delivered.
It is not all that surprising since all of these data warehouse projects were initiated to solve operational reporting issues. Considerable efforts has been spent to transform the data into a physical database, which were never designed for investment analytics.
Notably, custom business logics used in these data warehouse projects can be "locked" into the code or stored procedures and cannot be leveraged for front-office business intelligence applications.
In order to deliver on the promise of business intelligence and predictive analytics most investment managers have to start over.
